Soundproof Window and Back Door Replacement in Calgary

This Calgary house is around 20 years old and sits close to a highway. Moisture had worked its way between the panes of most of the glass units, a few windows would not open anymore, and the traffic noise was bad enough that the homeowner was having trouble sleeping.

NorthShield recommended a full-frame replacement with ENERGY STAR windows and triple glass, picked for energy efficiency and for soundproofing. We also swapped the back door for a steel door system with a full glass insert and mini blinds. Everything was done in one day.

Foggy Glass, Stuck Sashes and Highway Noise

When you see moisture between the panes, the seal on that glass unit has failed. On this house it had happened to most of the windows, and some of them could not be opened at all. Being so close to the highway, the house was also loud inside, especially at night.

Swapping the glass alone would have left the old frames in place. We took everything out down to the opening, including the old framing, then installed and resealed each new window from scratch so the seal around every unit is new.

Triple Glass to Keep the Traffic Outside

Every window got triple glass. We chose it for maximum energy efficiency and maximum soundproofing, since road noise was the main reason the homeowner called us. All of the windows are ENERGY STAR products.

The house now has a mix of styles: casement windows that crank open for airflow, awning windows that open from the bottom, and fixed units where a window does not need to open. Inside, the vinyl finishing means there is nothing to paint and very little to clean.

A Steel Back Door With Full Glass and Mini Blinds

At the back of the house we replaced the old door with a steel door system that swings out. It has a full glass insert, so the kitchen gets plenty of light and you can see straight out to the deck.

Every Window and the Back Door in a Single Day
