Black Exterior Triple-Glass Window Replacement Project in Toronto

A Toronto home from the 1990s received approximately 40 black exterior triple-glass replacement windows, with Low-E 366 on the south side, Low-E 180 on the north side, and custom wood interior casing.

Project Overview

This Toronto project was completed for a home built in the 1990s. The original wood windows were in poor condition, especially on the south-facing side of the house where sun, snow and weather exposure had caused major damage.

Several of the bottom windows had water penetration and visible deterioration. The homeowner wanted a maintenance-free upgrade that would modernize the look of the house while improving window efficiency through hot summer days and cold winter weather. Our Solution

NorthShield upgraded the home with a Supreme triple-glass package and different Low-E glass combinations based on sun exposure. On the south side of the house, Low-E 366 was used because it provides strong resistance against sun and UV exposure, helping reduce overheating during hot summer days.

On the north side of the house, NorthShield used triple glass with Low-E 180, selected for strong winter energy performance. The exterior was updated with a modern black finish, and the window style was changed from double units to single units to maximize the glass area and create a cleaner modern look. Installation Details

The project included approximately 40 windows and was completed in two days by a four-person NorthShield installation crew. The interior finishing was completed with wood 3 1/2-inch step barrel casing around the windows for a more modern finished look.

The finished result gave the home a maintenance-free exterior, improved glass performance for different exposures, larger glass areas and a more modern black exterior appearance.
