An Etobicoke custom-builder home from 2003 received approximately 15 custom-fitted Energy Star Most Efficient windows with brick-to-brick installation, exterior grills, Low-E 180 glass, argon gas and wood interior finishing.
This Etobicoke, Ontario project was completed for a custom-builder home built in 2003. The homeowner wanted to upgrade the windows to a maintenance-free product while improving the energy efficiency, soundproofing and overall performance of the house.
The project included approximately 15 windows, each custom-fitted to the home. NorthShield supplied Energy Star certified, Most Efficient windows designed for comfort through cold winter days and hot summer weather. For homeowners considering a similar full-house window replacement project in Etobicoke, this project shows how custom sizing, colour and installation details all matter.
The windows were built with a brown exterior finish and a white interior finish. Inside, the finishing was completed with a wood package to match the existing millwork in the home, helping the new windows feel natural within the original interior design.
The styles used in the home included casement windows, fixed windows, custom shapes and awning windows. Several windows also included special exterior grills to maintain the look of the house. The glass package used double glass with Low-E 180 and argon gas for strong winter performance, energy efficiency and soundproofing. NorthShield’s window energy efficiency guide explains how Low-E coatings and argon gas support year-round comfort.
NorthShield completed the installation using a full-frame, brick-to-brick method. Spray foam insulation was used around the openings for maximum energy efficiency and improved soundproofing.
The exterior of the windows was finished with matching caulking, selected to coordinate with the window colour and improve air tightness and water resistance against the elements. The installation took one day: the crew arrived at 9:00 a.m., started on the second floor, worked down to the main floor, and completed the project by 6:00 p.m. with cleanup and disposal of the old windows. Homeowners comparing window styles can also review NorthShield’s guide to casement versus double-hung windows.
