Triple-Glass Full-House Window Replacement Project in Winnipeg, Manitoba - two storey home window replacement

Project Overview

This Winnipeg project was completed for a custom-built home from approximately 1985. The original wood windows had become drafty, and the homeowner was also seeing humidity between panes of glass and around the top of the windows.

Many of the old wood windows could no longer be opened because the frames had swollen, warped and rotted in some areas. The customer wanted to replace them with a maintenance-free exterior and a much more energy-efficient window package. For homeowners planning a similar full-house window replacement project in Winnipeg, this project shows why aging wood windows should be addressed before comfort and moisture issues get worse.

Our Solution

NorthShield supplied Energy Star Most Efficient windows with triple-glass units, double Low-E coating and argon gas fill. This glass package was selected for maximum energy efficiency, soundproofing and solar control through both cold Winnipeg winters and warm summer days.

The house used several window styles, including fixed windows, casement windows, awning windows, custom bay windows and bow windows. The goal was to improve performance while keeping the home practical and comfortable room by room. NorthShield’s triple-pane versus double-pane window guide explains why triple glass is often recommended for Canadian homes with draft, noise or comfort concerns.

Installation Details

Because the homeowner wanted the interior finish to match the existing millwork, NorthShield completed custom oak finishing on the inside of the windows. This gave the new high-performance window package a finished look that still fit the character of the home.

The project included over 30 windows and was completed in three days by a four-person installation crew. The finished result gave the home a low-maintenance exterior, custom interior oak details, improved energy efficiency, better soundproofing and windows that operate properly again. Homeowners comparing styles can also review NorthShield’s guide to casement versus double-hung windows.
