Project Overview
NorthShield completed a brick-to-brick window replacement project in Scarborough for a home built around 1960. Most of the windows in the house were replaced, giving the homeowner a major upgrade in comfort, operation, and appearance.
The homeowner had a special request: they wanted as much glass area as possible. To achieve that, NorthShield designed window combinations with offset casements and large fixed sections, preserving wide views while still allowing ventilation where needed.
Custom Window Goals
The main goal was to maximize glass area without giving up practical operation. In the main rooms, the offset casement style allowed the fixed glass section to stay large while keeping an operable sash on one side.
The homeowner also wanted custom interior finishing. NorthShield completed custom wood ledges for the windows, matching the character of the older home and giving the interior a finished, intentional look.
Our Solution
The windows were installed using a full brick-to-brick method. This approach allowed the crew to remove the old window systems fully, prepare each opening, insulate and seal around the new units, and complete the interior trim work properly.
For the kitchen, NorthShield recommended an awning replacement window. This style helped maintain maximum glass area and gave the homeowner a window they could open in different weather conditions, making it the best fit for that room. Offset casement and fixed window combinations were used elsewhere for clear views, airflow, and a clean exterior appearance.
