Your Questions, Answered

How long does the actual window installation take?

For most North York homes, we can complete the installation in one to two days. A standard project (about 8–12 windows) typically takes 1-2 days. If you are doing a full-frame replacement or have a larger home, we might need longer to make sure the finishing and exterior capping are perfect. Everything will be included in your quote.

Do you offer free estimates?

Yes, absolutely. We provide free, no-obligation in-home estimates across North York. One of our specialists will come to your home, measure your openings, discuss styles, and give you a quote.

How do I know it’s time to replace my windows?

Keep an eye out for these "red flags" in your home:

- Drafts: If you feel a breeze while standing near a closed window.

- Condensation: Fog or moisture trapped between the glass panes (this means the seal has failed).

- High Energy Bills: If your North York Hydro or Enbridge bills are spiking, your windows are likely the culprit.

- Difficult Operation: If you have to fight with the window to open or lock it.

What is the difference between a "Retrofit" and a "Full-Frame" installation?

Retrofit: We leave the existing wooden frame and install the new window inside it. It’s faster and preserves original interior trim.

Full-Frame: We strip everything down to the structural opening. This is the "gold standard" for North York’s older homes because it allows us to check for hidden rot and add modern insulation around the frame.

Can you install windows in the winter?

Yes, we install year-round. We use a "one-at-a-time" method to minimize heat loss, meaning your home is only exposed to the outside for about 10–15 minutes per window. We also use specialized cold-weather sealants that cure perfectly even in sub-zero North York temperatures.

Are there any grants or rebates available in North York for 2026?

Yes! As of 2026, North York residents can take advantage of the Ontario Home Renovation Savings Program (HRSP).

- You can receive $100 per rough opening (window or door).

- Condition: You must replace at least 3 openings, and they must be ENERGY STAR® certified.

- Bonus: If you bundle windows with air sealing or insulation, your total rebate could reach up to $12,000.

Do I need a permit to replace my windows in North York?

Generally, if you are replacing windows within the existing "rough opening" (the same size), you do not need a permit. However, if we are cutting a new opening or significantly widening an existing one (common in basement apartment conversions), a permit from the Toronto Building Department is required. We can help guide you through this!

How do I clean and maintain my new windows?

Our windows are designed for "easy-clean" access.

- Double-Hung/Slider: The sashes tilt inward or lift out so you can clean the exterior glass from inside your house.

- Maintenance: Just wipe the vinyl frames with mild soap and water once a year. Avoid harsh chemicals!

Can new windows help with the noise from the 401 or Allen Road?

Definitely. If you live near major North York arteries, sound dampening is a huge priority. Our Triple-Pane windows act as a massive sound barrier, significantly reducing the "hum" of traffic and neighborhood noise.

What are "Low-E" coatings and do I need them?

Low-Emissivity (Low-E) is a microscopic metallic layer on the glass. It reflects heat back to its source. In the winter, it keeps your furnace heat inside. In the summer, it keeps the sun’s heat outside. Every window we install in North York comes standard with this technology.

Does the City of Toronto offer any specific help for window replacement?

Yes. North York homeowners can apply for the Home Energy Loan Program (HELP) through the City of Toronto. This is a low-interest loan (currently around 3-4%) that stays with the property, not the person. It’s a great way to fund a full window replacement without a massive upfront cost.
